U.S. Speaker Mike Johnson Claims Scripture Mandates Christian Support For Israel

Articles | August 3, 2025 | by Catholics for Catholics

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson visited Jerusalem’s Western Wall on Sunday August 3rd, wearing a white kippah during Tisha B’Av fast, the commemoration of the destruction of both the First and Second Temples in jewish history. Leading a congressional delegation, Johnson prayed at the Wall, emphasizing U.S. solidarity with Israel.

“Mike Johnson, the 56 Speaker of the House of Representatives in America. We’re here with a delegation of members of the House. We’re so grateful to be in Israel, particularly on this day, recognizing the destruction of the two temples, two times in history. But it is such a moving time for us to be here, to be here at the Wailing Wall. We’ve offered our prayers. We put our notes into the wall as is traditional. And we’re so moved by the hospitality of the people and the great love of Israel. Our prayer is that America will always stand with Israel and that we will pray for the preservation and the peace of Jerusalem. That’s what scripture tells us to do. It’s a matter of faith for us and a commitment that we have. God bless you.”

Other initiates alongside Speaker Johnson include Governor of Arkansas Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the daughter of Mike Huckabee, the U.S. Ambassador to Israel.

Many Catholics and even some protestants reacted to Mike Johnson’s claims about Sacred Scripture telling Christians to support the New State of Israel founded in 1948.

Joshua Charles, founder of Eternal Christendom said on X: “The Jewish Temple in Jerusalem is NOT a Christian holy site. It was destroyed because of Jerusalem’s rejection of Christ—prophesied in the Old Testament, stated explicitly by Christ, and fulfilled in AD 70. I’ve been in ancient Christian sources almost every day for more than 8 years. I have yet to find a single source that mentions venerating the Jewish Temple or the wall in question. If someone has found such a source and would like to quote and cite it, I’m happy to hear it. But so far, I have yet to find one.”
