Many clinics have closed or partially done-way with their services, but dozens are still open—and some reports suggest treatments moved underground as pressures mounted.

Despite a strong opposition from the Trump administration and bans on the procedures in about half the U.S. states, gender-related surgeries and medical interventions have not ceased, according to an investigative story by The Epoch Times.
The Times reported that some of these treatments are secretly happening, people on both sides of the controversy suggest. A few clinics, which at first said they would stop the procedures, have picked up where they left off after an uproar from transgender activists.
“The changes reflect a rapidly evolving situation amid public debate and court battles over whether puberty-blocking drugs, hormones, and surgeries should be allowed for minors in the United States,” reported The Times.
During its investigation, The Times got in touch with 30 large, well-known clinics. Many of those centers are in the charts of the American College of Pediatricians, which assesses that the American College of Pediatricians released on Aug. 6th. Among an estimated 100 major gender clinics for youths, 34 remain open, according to the group.
The opposing voices against so-called gender care are garnering more attention as political winds have shifted and detransitioners have publicly expressed regret over forever altering their bodies.
According to The Times, “gender-altering drugs and surgeries fall under the umbrella of so-called “gender affirming care.” While countries around the world are increasingly reversing course and prohibiting these procedures, major medical societies in the United States overwhelmingly support prescribing the treatments for gender dysphoria, a psychiatric condition diagnosed when a patient describes a mismatch between biological sex and self-perceived gender.”
The backlash against transgender care took part in 2025 after several court decisions, state bans, and President Donald Trump’s executive actions. In January, the president signed an executive order titled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” which withdraws federal funding and other support from the procedures.
But transgender activists are fighting back with lawsuits seeking to reverse state laws and Trump’s order. At least 17 states face legal challenges, according to KFF, a nonpartisan research group.
