President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice is considering stopping people who identify as transgender from buying firearms, after a spate of several mass shootings were perpetrated by attackers who claimed they suffered from gender dysphoria, reported The Daily Wire.
“Individuals within the DOJ are reviewing ways to ensure that mentally ill individuals suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to obtain firearms while they are unstable and unwell,” one source inside the Justice Department told The Daily Wire.
The Wire reported that The DOJ’s discussions focus on the fact that people who identify as transgender suffer from gender dysphoria, a mental disorder, the DOJ source familiar with the conversations shared. Gender dysphoria describes the sense of unease that a man or woman may feel if he or she thinks that their biological sex is incompatible with their so-called gender identity.
“Under Attorney General Bondi’s leadership this Department of Justice is actively considering a range of options to prevent mentally unstable individuals from committing acts of violence, especially at schools,” a DOJ spokesman said.
An epidemic of attacks by people identifying as transgender during the last years, especially against school children, has many on the right arguing that authorities should be taking a keen look at warning signs shown by these attackers.
The latest incident was a horrid attack perpetrated last week by a man identifying as transgender against elementary school children who were attending Holy Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Robin Westman, who was born as Robert Westman, opened fire, killing two children and injuring 17 others.
After a 2023 attack by a woman identifying as a man killed three school children and three adults in Tennessee, Catholic and independent schools in Minneapolis asked the state governor for protection. Alas, no funds were provided for security.
