Attacks against conservative activists on college campuses are nothing new, according to a story by Fox News.
Assaults on conservative advocates on college campuses have been happening for years, and are coming back following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on Wednesday at Utah Valley University.
Fox News reported that for example, on Feb. 21, 2019, at the University of California, Berkeley, a man working for TPUSA to recruit students for a new chapter was punched, resulting in a black eye, Business Insider reported.
“Yesterday, UCPD sent out a notice and request for information related to a reprehensible incident that occurred on Sproul Plaza earlier this week. According to the police, an unknown, unidentified assailant attacked a Berkeley student engaged in political advocacy,” the university said in a statement at the time.
In another incident, the University of Texas at Dallas TPUSA’s chapter president, Paige Neumann, was assaulted while tabling at the school. On video, the individual, a transgender student, can be seen striking Neumann with a metal bike lock.
Neumann took a video of the attack. The footage shows the suspect, identified by authorities as 20-year-old Liam Thanh Tam Nguyen, grabbing his bike before swinging a bike lock at the camerawoman.
Nguyen, who also identifies by the name Alyssa, was arrested and booked into Collin County Jail the same day, according to The Post.
“The attacker struck Paige in the head with a metal bike lock, hitting her with enough force to shatter her phone. Grace’s phone was also destroyed,” TPUSA posted at the time.
“It did hit the back of my head,” Neumann told The New York Post. “That is exactly what happened. It hit me almost on my neck. If he would have aimed a little bit lower, I could have been paralyzed. I think he wanted to kill me.”
