Prosecutors in Utah brought a murder charge Tuesday against the man accused of killing Charlie Kirk, saying he left a confession via a text message to his romantic partner, telling him that he had the opportunity to kill one of the country’s most important conservative voices “and I’m going to take it.”
Among other evidence, Utah Attorney Jeff Gray said that the DNA on the trigger of the Mauser rifle used to kill Kirk matched that of Tyler Robinson. He added that if convicted, Robinson could face the death penalty, according to The Epoch Times.
Gray said during a news conference with journalists at the Utah County Health & Justice Building in Provo, Utah, that other counts against Robinson include two obstructions of justice, aggravated murder charges, felony discharge of a firearm and causing serious bodily injury, two witness tampering charges, and violent offense committed in the presence of a child.
“The murder of Charlie Kirk is an American tragedy,” Gray said.
In addition, Gray said Robinson, 22, wrote in one text that he spent more than a week planning the attack on Kirk. The victim was one of the leading conservative voices in America, leading a national youth movement that helped Donald Trump nab the presidency in the past elections.
Robinson, a former brilliant high school student who earned a college scholarship, shot Kirk to death while the conservative commentator was holding an event at Utah Valley University in Orem. After the shooting, investigators have been gathering evidence in the killing, including a bolt-action rifle and ammunition engraved with anti-fascist messages.
So these are text messages between Robinson and his furry trans lover right after the assassination happened. Yeah, in my eyes, this is NOT how two 20-something lovers text to each other. pic.twitter.com/QCabN5Gjis

According to The Times, the witness tampering charges come from Robinson allegedly telling his roommate and lover -a man who identified as a woman- to stay silent if police questioned him and also telling the roommate to delete messages that contained incriminating evidence.
According to FBI director Kash Patel, other people could have been involved or knew about Robinson. He said that there were well over 20 people in a Discord chat server with Robinson who are being investigated.
Patel said that Robinson had a left-wing ideological world view, with Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announcing that bullets recovered in the case were etched with anti-fascist messages. Gray also made reference to the bullets’ etchings.
