An outpouring of condolences and grief was the reaction in the conservative world after the killing of Charlie Kirk, the activist and commentator who was a dear friend of Catholics for Catholics.

Kirk was slain by a gunman on Wednesday, as he was holding an event during a speaking tour in Utah Valley University in his American Comeback Tour. He was answering a question about mass shootings when he was shot.

John C. Yep, President of Catholics for Catholics, praised Kirk for his work with Catholics for Catholics and his labor with young people. He added that the killing of his friend showed the disturbing era the country is going through.

“We are heartbroken. Charlie was one of the greatest patriots. He was my dear friend who loved America and most importantly he loved Our Lord, Yep said. “We have reached a troubling new time in America. This country needs prayers more than ever. Pray for Erika, his wife, and his two small children that he has left behind. Eternal rest grant unto his soul, oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.”

President Donald Trump, a friend of Kirk, was the first to confirm the death of the activist. The speaker was also the CEO of Turning Point USA, a youth organization; Kirk was also known as a Trump sympathizer.

“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” Trump posted on his Truth Social account.

Trump added that Kirk was “great and even legendary.”

“He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!” the president wrote, later ordering American flags nationwide to fly at half-staff until Sunday at 6 p.m., according to the New York Post.

No to violence

General Michael Flynn, a former presidential security advisor and retired U.S. Army general, praised Kirk on X, the social media platform. He added that there was no room for violence, despite people’s political differences.

“This brutal assassination of Charlie Kirk is a shameful act of violence that must be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” Flynn wrote. “This is not merely an assault on one individual; it is an attack on the principles of free speech, open debate, and civil discourse that are supposed to define our country, our nation, the United States of America.”

Flynn went on: “Regardless of political differences, the use of violence to silence or intimidate anyone is utterly unacceptable. And it should NOT and will NOT be tolerated. What we are witnessing in our country is a dangerous and disturbing trend, this rise in political hatred and an alarming willingness to resort to aggression when faced with opposing views.”

Brutal and horrific was how Flynn described Kirk’s killing. He added that his assassination was a dark reminder of the ever increasing intolerance “tearing at the fabric of our society.”

“When ideas are met with violence instead of reasoned argument, we all lose. Our NATION loses! We cannot allow this to become the new normal. This will NOT stand in our civil society,” Flynn said. “Instead, we MUST stand firm in defending our freedoms, our right to disagree, and our shared commitment to peace and respect. The attacks on free speech and individual safety must stop NOW.?

Flynn added: “PRAY for Charlie, an Eagle of a man, a father, our nation’s son. He was taken from us today. May God Bless his FAMILY.”

Megyn Kelly and Matt Walsh

Megin Kelly, a popular media commentator and journalist, was scheduled to be with Kirk at an event in the coming weeks. She had hosted Kirk on her show several times.

As she announced Kirk’s death during her live program on The Megyn Kelly Show on Monday, she broke down in tears.

“I am so sorry to be bringing you this news. I am so sorry. I’m sorry for what it means for our country, for Charlie, poor dear Charlie and his family. Sorry for what it’s going to mean for the debates that we have yet to have, that he would have won, and he would have put everyone to shame as he had been,” Kelly said. “And I’m angry, really f—ing angry about how this happened, why this happened.”

Matt Walsh, the commentator for The Daily Wire said: “Charlie Kirk is a great man and a great fighter for the cause.”
