With ceremonies full of majestic pomp and royal honors, President Donald Trump and first Lady Melania Trump were welcomed to Windsor Castle by the top royalty of the United Kingdom, including the current monarchs.

The Trumps were given the complete imperial respects on Wednesday, as they were driven by a horsedrawn ornate carriage to Windsor Castle. King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Catherine, Princess of Wales welcomed them.

A large contingent formed by 1300 top British soldiers decked in full military regalia and 120 cavalry horse riders escorted the Trumps to the courtyard of Windsor Castle, reported the New York Post. A joint U.S.-UK Air Force flyover was included in the ceremony.

The outdoor reception included a military band playing the Star-Spangled Banner, as the President and the First Lady arrived in the horsedrawn carriages. After King Charles greeted them, Trump took part in the inspection of the British Guard of Honor.

The historic visit on Wednesday was the second time Trump was welcomed to Britain, being the only American president ever to visit the country for an official state visit for the second time. The first was in June 2019.

“My relationship is very good with the U.K., and Charles, as you know, who’s now king, is my friend,” Trump said on Tuesday before departing the White House.

At press time, the Trumps were scheduled to lay a wreath at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II as they visited St. George’s Chapel, before dining with the royal family during a banquet at Windsor Castle. On Thursday, the President is expected to join British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, the prime minister’s country estate, where the two will sign multiple tech and energy deals and hold a press conference.

The Post reported that Trump’s U.K. state visit comes just days after more than 100,000 protesters filled the streets of London, led by conservative activist Tommy Robinson, calling for the British government to stop welcoming influxes of Muslim migrants. Protesters carried British flags and St. George’s red-and-white flag of England, chanting, “We want our country back!

In the past, Trump has blasted Europe’s progressive immigration policies. However, he has lately lauded the U.K. for taking a “stronger stance.”

“On immigration, you better get your act together, or you’re not going to have Europe anymore,” Trump warned last month while in Scotland, adding, “You gotta stop the horrible invasion that’s happening to Europe, many countries in Europe.”
