Prayer will be back in schools.

President Donald Trump pledged on Monday to protect the rights of students to pray at public schools.

During the second official hearing of the Religious Liberty Commission at the Museum of the Bible, Trump spoke to a large crowd where he vowed to defend the rights of peoples of faith. The focus of the hearing, according to The Daily Wire, was on religious liberty and public education, presenting witnesses from students who said their religious beliefs were challenged at school.

“For most of our country’s history, the Bible was found in every classroom in the nation, yet in many schools, today’s students are instead indoctrinated with anti-religious propaganda and some are even punished for their religious beliefs,” Trump said.

Trump referred to a young girl from Texas named Hannah Allen, who was chided for getting together with a group of her classmates during lunch to pray for an injured friend.

“To support students like Hannah, I’m pleased to announce this morning that the Department of Education will soon issue new guidance protecting the right to prayer in our public schools,” Trump said.

However, what the guidance will be like is not well-defined. Recently, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Washington high school football coach who was sacked for leading voluntary prayers on the field after games. The court ruled that the school district violated the coach’s rights by disciplining him.

The novel protections for prayer come as the Trump administration on Monday introduced an “America Prays” initiative to inspire Americans to meet with 10 others once a week to pray for the country.
