Vowing to continue Charlie Kirk’s activism and work, the board of Turning Point USA elected his widow by unanimous decision as the new CEO of the nonprofit he co-founded.

Kirk was the CEO of Turning Point USA, a nonprofit geared toward spurring young people to vote for conservative causes. The commentator was killed last week as he was speaking to a crowd at a Utah University; the killer shot him in the neck as he was answering a question about mass murders, according to Fox News.

Turning Point USA’s election of Erika Kirk happens when the organization’s existence seems crucial for conservatives, especially for the upcoming congressional midterm elections. All eyes are on the nonprofit since President Donald Trump credited Charlie Kirk for helping him gather the votes from young people he needed to nab the White House.

“Charlie prepared all of us for a moment like this one. He worked tirelessly to ensure Turning Point USA was built to survive even the greatest tests. And now, it is our great pride to announce Erika Kirk as the new CEO and Chair of the Board for Turning Point USA,” the board announced.

Authorities in Utah have accused Tyler Robinson, 22, of firing the Mauser rifle from a rooftop that killed Kirk, 31 at Utah Valley University on September 10. If convicted, Robinson could face the death penalty.

After Kirk’s murder, Erika, 36, said in a video that she would be taking over her husband’s mission to enlist young Americans to the conservative side. Kirk, who is Catholic, shares her late husband’s Christian faith and conservative values.

“You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife, the cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry,” she said.
