The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the largest of its kind in the nation that oversees about 10 million people, approved of an emergency declaration to aid with rental assistance and handouts to anyone affected by the recent immigration raids.
The board passed the Proclamation of Local Emergency for Federal Immigration Actions “that have created fear, disrupted neighborhoods, and destabilized families, workers, and businesses,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath’s office said in a statement Tuesday. The emergency declaration passed in a 4 to 1 vote, with the board’s lone Republican supervisor voting against it, according to The Daily Wire.
The board’s move will also open the door for the county to provide legal aid to individuals affected by ICE operations.
“What’s happening in our communities is an emergency — and Los Angeles County is treating it like one,” Horvath said. “Declaring a Local Emergency ensures that the full weight of the County government is aligned to support our immigrant communities who are being targeted by federal actions. For months, families have lived under threat and workers have been taken from job sites. This proclamation is about action and speed — it allows us to move faster, coordinate better, and use every tool available to protect and stabilize our communities. We will continue to stand with our immigrant neighbors — today, and for as long as it takes,” she added.

But Emily Covington, spokesperson for ICE, countered at the board, saying they should concentrate on helping fire victims over illegal immigrants.
“The only state of emergency is the one the residents of Los Angeles face after electing officials who give a middle finger to the law,” Covington told Fox News. “Perhaps the board should ‘supervise’ funds to support law-abiding fire victims who still haven’t recovered instead of criminal illegal aliens seeking refuge in their sanctuary city.”
“While they publicly fear-monger, I would be shocked if they didn’t agree with ICE removing a child rapist from their neighborhood,” she added.
ICE sources echoed Covington’s statement, telling The Daily Wire that politicians in Los Angeles “keep shielding illegals and putting Americans and legal residents second.”
