Two months ago, 12-year-old Sophia Forchas’ life was on the line, as she was one of the children shot by a gunman in a Minneapolis Catholic Church during Holy Mass.
Two other children died and doctors feared that Forchas, who was shot in the left temple lobe and left nearly brain dead, would be the third victim of the attack who would lose her life. But on Thursday, she left the hospital on her own two feet and returned to Annunciation Catholic Church as she was welcomed by groups of parishioners who greeted her with open arms.
“Your prayers have been powerful,” the Forchas family statement read, according to The Daily Wire. “Sophia surviving this horrific attack is a miracle. Her healing progress is nothing short of miraculous; an undeniable testament to the mercy and intervention of our Lord Jesus Christ. Each day we uncover new revelations of moments and circumstances that kept her alive and made her recovery possible. There are simply too many to be dismissed as coincidence. God has heard our prayers and wrapped Sophia in His healing embrace.”
Days before her 13th birthday, Sophia Forchas leaves the hospital after being shot in the head from the Aug 27th attack at Annunciation Catholic School.

By a miracle only through Christ, we welcome Sophia back! God Bless Her! pic.twitter.com/c2b3bR3Yvb
“It is by God’s will that she has come this far. We are eternally grateful to our loving Father, who hears and answers prayers,” the statement added.
On August 27, Robin Westman, 23, a man who identified as a transgender woman, went to Annunciation Catholic School and started shooting at the children who were attending the first school mass of the year. Westman killed two students; 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moyski, and wounded 27 others.
Westman later turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. In his manifesto, he left bizarre, sometimes Satanic drawings and thoughts, blaming Christians, Jews, President Donald Trump, marijuana and his own transgender identity for the massacre.

After being shot, Forchas had to be placed in a medically induced coma and have part of her skull removed, according to CBS News. Her parents credit her incredible recovery to the power of faith and prayer, plus the determination of her medical team.
“Sophia was in critical condition when she arrived at the hospital. “It’s only been two months or so since this terrible event,” Dr. Walt Galicich, a neurosurgeon with Hennepin Healthcare, said of Forchas’ recovery. “And to see her walking around wanting to go home and go back to school is pretty amazing.”
