Elated by his success in ending the war in Gaza, Trump is now focused on putting a stop to the bloody conflict in Ukraine.

Buoyed by his success as a peacemaker between Hamas and Israel, President Donald Trump said he’ll get together with Russia’s Vladimir Putin in Hungary to try to settle the war in Ukraine.
“I believe great progress was made with today’s telephone conversation: Trump wrote on Truth Social after his early afternoon phone call with Putin on Thursday.
But so far there is not a date for the Trump-Putin meeting.
“[W]e agreed that there will be a meeting of our High Level Advisors, next week. The United States’ initial meetings will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, together with various other people, to be designated. A meeting location is to be determined. President Putin and I will then meet in an agreed upon location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can bring this ‘inglorious’ War, between Russia and Ukraine, to an end.”
Trump’s is scheduled to have a meeting on Friday at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has been clamoring Trump to sell Kyiv Tomahawk missiles that would permit Ukrainian forces to strike deeper into Russian country.
Zelenskyy has contended that by using the Tomahawk’s, Putin would agree to Trump’s offers of accepting peace negotiations. Trump told reporters who traveled with him to Israel on Sunday that he had planned to discuss the missiles with Putin as a way to pressure him to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“Do they want to have Tomahawks going in that direction? I don’t think so,” Trump said on Sunday. “I think I might speak to Russia about that.”
With the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and hostage deal holding, Trump has said he’s now turning his attention to bringing the war in Ukraine to an end and is weighing providing Kyiv long-range weaponry as he looks to prod Moscow to the negotiating table.
During his 2024 reelection campaign, Trump had promised to end both wars. Despite his victory in stopping the bloody conflict in Gaza, which garnered worldwide praise even from some of his detractors, albeit reluctantly, so far he has failed to put an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Putin, Russia’s strongman, has so far proven a harder nut to crack, according to international observers. Still Trump says that his success in Gaza is a very good sign for the Ukraine conflict.
“Interestingly we made progress today, because of what’s happened in the Middle East,” Trump said of the Russia-Ukraine war on Wednesday evening as he welcomed supporters of his White House ballroom project.
