The President of Catholics for Catholics defended the President of the Heritage Foundation, saying that free speech is important and that courage is needed to have conversations in today’s platforms.
Kevin Roberts, the President of the Heritage Foundation came under fire last week when he defended Tucker Carlson, a conservative commentator who previously was with Fox News, for having commentator Nick Fuentes on his show. Roberts said he did not agree with Fuentes, a controversial figure who is criticized for allegedly holding Anti-Semitic views and other opinions, but that cancelling him was not the correct way of doing things.
Roberts said Fuentes has said things he abhors, but that “canceling” Fuentes “is not the answer” and that his ideas should be challenged and debated.

Catholics for Catholics President John C. Yep said during an interview with Newsmax that good, critical thinking is needed during today’s discussions. One of those ways is to have clear, rational debates.
“I think we have to have clear heads. Debate is good. I don’t know Nick Fuentes. I think a lot of what he says is totally off the mark. I can’t stand his vulgarity,” Yep said. “But that being said, I think we need to continue on with a lot of courage to have these conversations. It’s important.”
Yep added that as a Catholic, he agreed with Carlson with some of the points he holds. He added that indeed, the Catholic church is the new Israel.
“We have a very clear teaching that the Catholic Church is the new Israel. That does not justify ever antisemitic hatred towards those people who were the first to hear the word of God,” Yep said. “My ancestors literally saved Jews from Auschwitz and Joseph Kula was sent to Auschwitz and he was killed for that very reason. So, I care about them.”
“But at the same time, I think it’s very important when Tucker was saying there, I will agree, that dispensationalism does not have a place within Christianity.” Yep said. “We don’t recognize that it’s a biblical mandate to support the 1948 state of Israel. Should we respect them? Absolutely, 100%. Were the Israelis, the best positioned to defend our sacred holy sites, probably. Radical Islam is horrible. [Zohran] Mamdani is going to win tomorrow in New York City, a travesty. So, I think we have to have clear heads.”
