In New York, when it comes to immigration raids, it will be business as usual.
Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani nabbed a historic victory during Tuesday’s mayoral race, but President Donald Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan promised to proceed with immigration raids in the Big Apple, according to The Daily Wire.
Mamdani, 34, a media darling of progressives, has sworn to keep Gotham’s sanctuary status, thwarting local police officers from working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But that’s not going to deter the Trump administration, Homan told The Daily Wire on Wednesday.
“We will continue operations. Nothing changes,” Homan, who previously served as acting ICE director, said.
During his electoral campaign, Mamdani labeled ICE as a “rogue agency” that “has no interest in laws, no interest in order.” “It is the actions of masked men in unmarked cars picking up Americans and New Yorkers, whether they’re going in for a regular immigration check-in or they’re just in their apartment lobby like Mahmoud Khalil,” Mamdani previously told far-left host Mehdi Hasan.

“And I do believe that when we think about what this country needs and a humane immigration policy that has some thought and care for law and order, that clearly is not ICE,” he said.
The Department of Homeland Security countered that Mamdani’s anti-ICE policy will only raise crime in New York City. “As it does every day, DHS will enforce the law, including in New York City. When sanctuary politicians ignore ICE detainers, they are protecting criminal illegal aliens at the expense of American citizens. ICE is arresting and removing barbaric criminals with prior convictions for rape, murder, drug trafficking, and instead of holding them for ICE, sanctuary politicians release them back into your communities,” Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.
