It is strongly expected that the International Olympic Committee will ban men who identify as transgender women for the 2028 Olympics, which are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.
According to The Daily Mail, it remains unclear if there will be obstacles against athletes with “differences of sexual development (DSD).
During the 2024 Olympics held in Paris, Imane Khelif of Algeria, a biological male who identifies as a woman, pummeled Angela Carini of Italy. After 46 seconds of fighting, Carini refused to keep boxing, in what many observers found hard to watch as Khelif clearly outmatched her in every way.

Under the current rules, each sport has the power to choose if men who identify as transgender women can compete if their testosterone levels fall below a designated threshold.
But under new president Kirsty Coventry, the International Olympic Committee is discussing a remarkable policy shift that would impose a complete prohibition across all sports for the Los Angeles Games.
Such a decision would avoid the kind of situation that saw Laurel Hubbard contest the weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Hubbard transitioned in 2012.

Olympic sources have confirmed that such a policy is very much the ‘direction of travel.’ Still, it is highly dubious to come into force before the Winter Olympics in Italy next February.
The decision to ban men who identify as transgender women would be seen as an accomplishment by Coventry, who campaigned to protect the female category on her way to winning the presidential election earlier this year.
It would also avoid any ill-wanted confrontation with Donald Trump prior to the LA Olympics in February. Trump signed an executive order to prevent men who identify as transgender women from competing in female sports.
