It was the last stop of the tour started by Charlie Kirk. The Justice Department said the attackers were members of Antifa.

On the University of Berkeley’s campus that would have been the final stop of Charlie Kirk’s speaking tour, violent Antifa members attacked conservative attendees of a Turning Point USA visit that ended in a wild, bloody skirmish outside of the venue.

The Justice Department announced Tuesday it will investigate the case after four people were arrested after Turning Point USA’s final tour stop of 2025, where temperaments blazed over the group left behind by Kirk, the slain conservative activist who was killed by a sniper in September as he spoke with students in Utah.

On Tuesday, Harmeet Dhillon, who is in charge of the Justice Department’s civil rights division, posted on X that her department would “investigate what happened here.” She described the protestors as members of Antifa.

Dhillon said, “I see several issues of serious concern regarding campus and local security and Antifa’s ability to operate with impunity in CA.”

On Monday, about three hundred riot-geared police tried to protect the premises around Zellerbach Hall and the approximately 2,000 attendees of the event, as protestors and Antifa members, who are known for their anarchic, ferocious methods of attacking conservatives in a swarm-style that often overwhelms opponents by their sheer numbers, tried to lung at visitors, according to The Daily Wire.

Some of the protestors donned keffiyehs, chanted pro-Palestinian chants as they appeared outside the campus venue hours before the event started, confronting, insulting and taunting attendees who lined up to enter the building. At one point an agitator donning a dark, plaid shirt attacked a bearded man who was wearing a red Turning Point USA shirt and had been selling t-shirts.

After the attacker sucker punched the shirt vendor with a flurry of fisticuffs, he quickly ran away from the fight as the victim tried to defend himself. With a bloodied face, the man in the red shirt chased the attacker and tackled him amidst the crowd, as police descended on both, breaking up the fight, The New York Post reported.

Police arrested the two men. One person was charged with battery, but it is unclear if it was one of the men engaged in the fistfight.

Police set up a barricade before the event, but alleged Antifa members lit flares, snarled the foot traffic and shouted at conservative attendees. The Mercury News reported that police arrested two more people who attempted to get past the barricade.

The TPUSA college tour was kicked off months ago by Kirk himself, who was slain in September during a stop at Utah Valley University. The event at Zellerbach Hall featured comedian Rob Schneider and Christian apologist and writer Dr. Frank Turek.

The chief spokesman for TPUSA and executive producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” Andrew Kolvet, said “Antifa thugs” were the ones behind the attacks and attempting to stop Monday’s event. Even as left-wing protesters crowded outside, the event went ahead as planned before a packed audience inside.

“Despite Antifa thugs blocking our campus tour stop with tear gas, fireworks, and glass bottles, we had a PACKED HOUSE in the heart of deep blue UC Berkeley,” Kolvet said. God bless these brave students. For Charlie 🇺🇸🇺🇸.”
