With the goal of leading the world in superpower technology, the Trump administration on Monday started a recruiting attempt which will strive at augmenting the government’s ranks of technology workers, initiating a program that will employ tech employees to join federal agencies and work on projects linked to artificial intelligence and modernization.

Called the U.S. Tech Force, the program is the first hiring system of its kind for the administration, which started its term by firing federal workers and pressuring tens of thousands to resign. Still, more tech workers are needed to fill the government ranks.

“We have some resources, but certainly it’s an area that we need to build out more,” Scott Kupor, the director of the Office of Personnel Management, which is leading the program, told reporters on Monday.

The U.S. Tech Force is expected to involve about 1,000 technology specialists working to fast-track AI implementation, according to an official government website, reported The Washington Times.

“Backed by the White House, Tech Force will tackle the most complex and large-scale civic and defense challenges of our era — from administering critical financial infrastructure at the Treasury Department to advancing cutting-edge programs at the Department of Defense — and everything in between,” the website reads.

The Times reported that Tech Force will mainly hire entry-level technologists — in partnership with nonpartisan talent agency NobleReach Foundation — who will work for a two-year employment term in the federal government, reporting directly to agency leaders in “collaboration with leading technology companies.”

NobleReach will work with the government to deploy its pipeline of top talent in AI, cybersecurity, data science and more to the Tech Force, according to a company press release.

Kupor said he met with this year’s cohort of NobleReach Scholars in September and was “blown away by their skills and passion for serving the American people.”

“We’ve seen how working on behalf of our nation gives these young leaders an appreciation for public service that will stay with them throughout their careers, in and out of government,” NobleReach CEO Arun Gupta said in a company press release. “The United States Tech Force will create a pathway for more young people to have that experience, and for the government to benefit from their skills, their entrepreneurial mindset, and their deep desire to make an impact. We are proud to be a founding partner.”
