More protein. Take up a bodybuilders diet.
Urging Americans to embrace full-fat dairy products, the Trump administration is telling the nation to cook with beef and consume more proteins, according to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again campaign.
Released Wednesday, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans combine MAHA-influenced changes with longer-standing guidance for people to cut sugar consumption while eating more whole grains and colorful vegetables and avoiding “highly processed” foods.
According to a story by the Daily Wire, the new guidance turns the food pyramid upside down, telling people to eat whole foods, giving priority to healthy fats and protein, and limiting or avoiding ultra-processed foods.
In other words, the war against “healthy fats” is over. Kennedy and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins said Americans should give precedence to nutrient-dense, high-quality protein foods in every meal, including a selection of animal sources such as eggs, poultry, seafood, and red meat.
Rollins and Kennedy said people should also consider plant-sourced protein, such as beans, peas, lentils, legumes, nuts, seeds, and soy.

“My message is clear: EAT REAL FOOD,” Kennedy said, in a social media post.
Still, the DGA tells people, like in the past, to stay away from ultra-processed foods. The new guidance tells people to “avoid highly processed, packaged, prepared, ready-to-eat, or other foods that are salty or sweet” and “avoid sugar-sweetened beverages, such as soda, fruit drinks, and energy drinks.”
Though fiber-rich whole grains are good for a healthy diet, the DGA stresses that refined carbohydrates should be evaded.
The overhaul of the guidance is noteworthy, despite the fact that it is updated by the HHS and USDA every five years. Kennedy’s and Rollins’ announcement is a big change since the guidance was created in 1980.
