Former President Bill Clinton and his wife and prior Secretary of State, Hillary, refused to testify in the House’s Jeffrey Epstein probe, intensifying a fracas with GOP leader James R. Comer of Kentucky— he swiftly said he would take steps to hold them in contempt of Congress.

“Every person has to decide when they have seen or had enough and are ready to fight for this country, its principles and its people, no matter the consequences,” the Clintons wrote in a lengthy letter to Mr. Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, which was obtained by The New York Times. “For us, now is that time.”

According to Fox News, a day after announcing the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform would start contempt of Congress proceedings against Bill Clinton, Comer on Wednesday said the same will be done against Hillary Clinton.

Comer said the committee would seek to hold Hillary Clinton in contempt after she failed to appear for a scheduled deposition tied to the panel’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, NBC News reported.

“Jeffrey Epstein visited the White House 17 times while Bill Clinton was president,” Mr. Comer said on Tuesday, speaking to reporters after holding Mr. Clinton’s scheduled deposition with a chair left empty to call attention to the former president’s absence, according to the New York Times. He added: “No one’s accusing Bill Clinton of anything, any wrongdoing. We just have questions.”

In a committee press release about Bill Clinton’s missed deposition, Comer said the subpoenas were approved in a bipartisan manner and contended that Democrats on the panel diluted their own rhetoric about looking for justice for victims by not attending.

However, the Clintons are remaining steadfast.

The former president and former first lady told Comer in a letter they believe the subpoenas are “legally invalid” and said they do not plan to appear for depositions.

The Clintons accused the committee of partisan politics, stated that Comer’s main concerns have “prevented progress” in discovering facts, and insisted they have provided the limited information they have.

“For us, now is that time,” the Clintons wrote, portraying their refusal as a stand against government overreach and warning they will “forcefully defend” themselves.
