In what may turn out to test President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown policies, an ICE officer shot and killed a woman driver in Minneapolis on Wednesday, in an incident that federal officials insist was in self-defense but that the mayor of that city described as rash and preventable.
According to The New York Post, the woman who was shot by an ICE agent has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, who described herself as a mother, a wife and a poet. She was identified by her mom hours after she was killed when she allegedly tried to ram ICE agents on a street in the city, the Star Tribune reported.

“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” her mother, Donna Ganger, told the newspaper.
According to The Post, a video appeared to show her Honda Pilot making contact with an ICE agent as he opened fire. President Trump and other officials have said Good’s killing was justified.
Good’s death happened some blocks from where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020. Wednesday’s incident quickly elicited hundreds of furious protesters.
While in Texas, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the incident was an “act of domestic terrorism” carried out against ICE officers by a woman who “attempted to run them over and rammed them with her vehicle. An officer of ours acted quickly and defensively, shot, to protect himself and the people around him.”

Embattled Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said he was prepared to send in the state’s National Guard, if necessary, after the shooting, according to a story by Fox News.
Waltz said, “we’ve never been at war with our federal government. We are preparing the National Guard; they are prepared to be deployed if necessary.”
Noem confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security recently sent 2,000 additional immigration agents to Minneapolis, and that in recent days, they’ve arrested “hundreds of criminals,” including people accused of fraud, murder, and rape.
Good was allegedly among several people who blocked the street with their vehicles to stop the agents from moving, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Agents got out of their blocked truck and ordered the woman to move her SUV; she sped toward one of the officers, pushing him with her vehicle.
As he spun toward the driver’s seat window, he fired three shots into the car, footage from numerous angles shows, according to The Post. Good was shot at least once in the head, and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
