Israeli Cybersecurity Billionaire Says “It’s Time To Limit The First Amendment”

“I know it’s difficult to hear, but it’s time to limit the First Amendment in order to protect it, and quickly, before it’s too late,” Shlomo Kramer, Co-Founder and CEO of Cato Networks, an Israeli-based cybersecurity firm, said on CNBC recently. When one of the co-hosts asked Kramer for clarification, he replied, “I mean that we need to control the platforms.” The government, according to Kramer, needs to “educate people against lies.”

“You need to use technology in order to stabilize the political system,” he continued. The implication is that artificial intelligence is needed to help protect against artificial intelligence.

Kramer says there is a need for social media platforms to deliver “more efficient consumption” to the user by way of filtering out misleading content produced by artificial intelligence, since it is becoming more difficult to separate authentic images and videos from fakes.

The government, he says, could be using the same tools.

One of the co-hosts mentioned that China is using AI to control the population, and even though the United States is in an AI-race with China, “we’re not as interested in regulation right now, certainly not at the state-level,” to which Kramer replied, “And that’s a big mistake.”

Kramer’s comments raise concerns about foreign perspectives on free speech rights in America as well as the future uses of AI in our country. Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had boasted of Israel’s role in promoting laws in the United States that restrict free speech against those who try to “boycott Israel.” This past summer, control over TikTok in the United States was handed over to Oracle, led by pro-Israel Trump ally Larry Ellison. Ellison has “poured millions into Israel’s tech and surveillance industries.”

“The acquisition of TikTok by Oracle, Silver Lake, and Andreessen Horowitz is therefore not simply a reshuffling of corporate control, but the latest step to consolidate a foreign government’s censorship regime in America,” wrote Harrison Berger for The American Conservative.

The Big Beautiful Bill, signed into law by President Trump last summer, leaves AI regulation unchecked and “provides significant federal funding, grants, and tax incentives for companies investing in U.S.-based AI infrastructure, including data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, and AI research, with support from federal agencies,” according to a legal analysis.

The Jewish Insider also reports that “combating antisemitism online” is a “top lobbying priority” for the Jewish community in the new year.
