The massive immigration operation in Minneapolis may be over, but President Donald Trump’s Homeland Security will continue without missing a beat, said Border Czar Tom Homan.
Homan said “Operation Metro Surge,” which garnered international attention, will be mostly over, with some Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents remaining in Minneapolis, according to a story in Newsmax. But he stressed that this by no means signifies that ICE will tone down their enforcement.
“For those that say we are backing down … you are simply wrong,” he said. “President Trump made a promise of mass deportation, and that’s what this country is going to get.”
Homan said that ICE will keep a smaller force in Minnesota temporarily to complete investigations into agitators and fraud cases while shifting surge personnel back to their home stations or other high-need areas across the country.
President Trump agreed to end “Operation Metro Surge” in Minnesota, Homan said in a news conference alongside senior ICE, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and Border Patrol officials. Still, the operation had “successful results” and made the Twin Cities “much safer” through arrests of violent criminal aliens and improved coordination with state and local law enforcement.
Homan, who was presented with the Protector of America Award by Catholics for Catholics for helping save 129,000 children lost during the Biden era, said the focus of Operation Metro Surge was public safety, and he credited Trump’s leadership for driving the effort.

“As a result of this search operation, we have greatly reduced the number of targets for enforcement action, and many criminal aliens have been arrested and taken off the streets, including murderers, sex offenders, national security threats, gang members, and other violent criminals,” Homan said.
Discussing the widespread rumors that ICE was raiding considerate locations such as churches, hospitals, and schools, Homan denied the claims.
“Operation ICE has not arrested anybody inside a hospital.”
“We have not arrested anybody inside an elementary school. We have not arrested anybody inside a church,” he added, calling those claims “unfounded.”
