Caving into the demands of the House’s Oversight Committee investigation, Bill and Hillary Clinton consented on Monday to testify in Congress’ probe on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, relenting just days before the House was expected to vote to hold them in criminal contempt.
Hillary Clinton will testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Feb. 26, and Bill Clinton will appear on Feb. 27. It will be the first time that lawmakers have forced a former president to testify, according to Newsmax.
The Clintons had been unyielding for months, saying that they would not conform to subpoenas from Representative James R. Comer of Kentucky, the panel’s Republican chairman. But the former President and former Secretary of State agreed on Monday to testify, capitulating to the demands of its Republican chairman days before the House was expected to vote to hold them in criminal contempt of Congress.
The agreement comes after months of negotiating between the two sides as Republicans sought to make the Clintons a focal point in the committee’s probe into Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in a New York jail cell in 2019, according to Newsmax.

With the support of a few Democrats, the House Republicans managed to submit the Clintons to testify, threatening them with charges of an advanced criminal contempt before Congress and to put it up to a potential vote this week. It also pressured them with potential fines and even prison time if they had been convicted.
Like many other influential and affluent men, Bill Clinton had a well-known relationship with Jeffrey Epstein during the late 1990s and early 2000s. However, he has not been accused of misconduct during his friendship with the late convicted sex offender.
