Democratic Mayor Karen Bass allegedly lied and altered reports that showed she “watered down” a key report.

The mayor of Los Angeles is under new scrutiny as allegations have surfaced that she personally was in charge of “watering down” the report about 2025 behemoth fires that ravaged the city.
According to The Daily Wire, Democratic Mayor Karen Bass is enmeshed in an accumulating political crisis after allegations from sources close to the mayor’s office disclosed to the Los Angeles Times that she pressured fire officials to remove or soften key findings regarding the Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LAFD) shortcomings. One of the main problems is that the allegations say that the Department did not pre-deploy the fire trucks before the disaster of January 2025, as well as fully staffing the ranks.
The fire destroyed 6,000 structures and claimed the lives of 12 people. It was one of the worst disasters in California history.
Bass has time after time rebuffed any wrongdoing, but two people close to the case have told investigators that they are willing to give testimony under oath that she kept an early draft of the report until the changes she wanted were made. Allegedly, one of the confidants warned her that changing the document was a “bad idea” that would provoke serious political harm.

The latest political fiasco for Bass is one more point of criticism for her in the handling of the fire. As the inferno was ravaging parts of the city, filling the metropolis with smoke, whipped by destructive winds, the mayor was having a good time traveling in Ghana for a presidential inauguration.
When Bass returned, she was videotaped at the airport snubbing questions about why she had approved a $23 million cut to the LAFD budget — the second-largest cut in her fiscal plan — just months before the disaster.
A probe by The Times and public records formerly showed that the LAFD did not keep firefighters on duty for a second shift despite forecasts of “catastrophic” winds. In addition, evidence implies a smaller fire on New Year’s Day was not extinguished and left to smolder for six days before it reawakened into the gargantuan Palisades fire.
“The mayor didn’t tell the truth when she said she had nothing to do with changing the report,” one source told the Times.
