Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, the chairman of the Religious Liberty Commission that recently removed Carrie Prejean Boller, a Catholic, joined The Mark Levin Show on Monday and heavily criticized Carrie and named Catholics for Catholics as a “fringe group” and a “cabal.” Catholics for Catholics recently announced that Carrie will receive the Catholic Champion Award at the 2026 Catholic Prayer for America Gala.
Patrick described Carrie as “combative” and claimed he “had to gavel her down to stop her” from this alleged combativeness during the hearing. (Catholics for Catholics previously reported on Carrie’s remarks here and here.)
Patrick claimed that Carrie “kept going back to, ‘the Jews killed Jesus,’” but this claim completely lacked context. In the hearing, Carrie asked Pastor JC Cooper if he was concerned that parts of the Bible, particularly the New Testament, would be considered anti-semitic, specifically referring to the killing and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. She cited the IHRA’s definition of anti-semitism which mentions “claims of Jews killing Jesus” as a potential issue. The ADL also specifically highlights the fact that Jews killed Jesus as a “myth” and describes the narrative in the gospel of Matthew as “patently false.”
He then told Levin that the Republican Party has a “very real problem with a very small group” that is anti-semitic, and the implication is that Carrie is part of that group.
The lieutenant governor then turned his attention to Catholics for Catholics specifically. Levin laughed when Patrick mentioned Carrie is a recent convert to the faith and said “her Catholicism is with a group called Catholics for Catholics.”
“But Catholics for Catholics is not recognized by the Church. It’s not recognized by the bishops..it’s a fringe group,” said Patrick. He described Catholics for Catholics as a “little cabal.”
“It’s about time they’re called out because…in my heart, I know that’s not where America is. In my heart, I know that’s not where our party is,” he said.

John Yep, President of Catholics for Catholics, issued a response to Dan Patrick and Mark Levin’s discussion on social media:
Just a quick message for Lt. Dan Patrick and Mark Levin: first of all, thank you for leading such an important commission on religious liberty which America needs now more than ever.
Secondly, yes: we are giving the Catholic Champion Award to Carrie Prejean at the Catholic Prayer for America Gala, March 19th in Washington, D.C. Why? Because that woman stood up for her Catholic faith. We are Catholics for Catholics, and we back those who stand up for their faith in the public square.
