Be prepared for close encounters of a third kind. Or maybe not.
With aliens making headlines in the past week, President Donald Trump announced Thursday night that he will direct the public revelation of government records related to extraterrestrial life.
“Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters,” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social.
According to Reuters, earlier in the day, Trump, without showing evidence, accused former President Barack Obama of wrongly disclosing classified information when talking about aliens publicly, saying Obama “made a big mistake.”
“He took it out of classified information … He’s not supposed to be doing that,” Trump told reporters while traveling to Georgia.
Obama was asked if aliens were real during an interview with podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen released on Saturday.
“They’re real, but I haven’t seen them, and they’re not being kept in … Area 51. There’s no underground facility unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States,” Obama said.
Area 51 is a classified Air Force facility in Nevada that unconventional theorists have conjectured holds alien bodies and a crashed spaceship. CIA archives released in 2013 said it was a test site for top-secret spy planes.
