Many X users have complained against the explosion of AI-generated content in recent months that risks misinforming the public when major events take place.

As the war in the Middle East rages on, X looks to prevent manipulation and misinformation by penalizing creators who post artificial intelligence-generated videos of armed conflicts without clear disclosure policies.
The social media giant said they will penalize creators who post “videos of armed conflict” generated by artificial intelligence without disclosing that the video is not authentic, according to The Daily Wire.
Nikita Bier, the head of product of X, said the company is changing its policies to crack down on users making money through X’s revenue sharing program by deceiving the public during a time of war. Starting on Tuesday, users who upload AI-generated content showing the war between the U.S. and Iran without a disclosure will not be able to make money on their posts for 90 days, and a second violation would result in a permanent ban from the program.
“During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground. With today’s AI technologies, it is trivial to create content that can mislead people,” Bier said.
X’s decision was broadly commended by users who contend that the explosion of AI-generated content in recent months risks hoodwinking the public when major events, such as the conflict in the Middle East, happen.
Ever since the war started over the weekend, pro-Iran accounts have uploaded AI-generated content claiming to show the USS Abraham Lincoln getting smashed by Iranian missiles.
U.S. Central Command had to respond on Sunday to fake statements that the USS Abraham Lincoln was hit by Iranian missiles.
