As Israeli and Lebanese envoys are expected to come together on Tuesday with hopes of peace negotiations, Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun said on Friday that strikes from Israel killed 13 state security personnel who were in a governmental building in the southern city of Nabatieh.
Aoun, in a statement condemned Israeli attacks and said targeting state institutions would not stop Lebanon from defending its sovereignty, according to a story by Newsmax.
Still, on Tuesday, diplomats from Israel and Lebanon are scheduled to meet in Washington, as President Donald Trump looks to calm weeks of Israeli fighting with Beirut, who is supported by Hezbollah. The conflict has threatened to derail a fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire.
Trump is pressuring both sides to end the fighting, a crucial demand by Iran in parallel talks due this weekend in Pakistan.
