On the second day of the preliminary hearing to determine whether Tyler Robinson will go to trial for allegedly killing Charlie Kirk, three witnesses were heard from: David Hull (in continuation from his testimony on day one), lead investigator on the case; Jennifer Faumuina, a sergeant with the Utah State Bureau of Investigation; and Amanda Bakker, a forensic examiner for the FBI in Quantico, who processed certain items for DNA and wrote the report.
HIGHLIGHTS
No footage of the actual shooting: The prosecution acknowledged that no footage of the actual shooting exists.
Tyler Robinson was not known to investigators until he voluntarily turned himself in, alongside his parents, at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office: David Hull, lead investigator, testified that the identity of the suspect in the video compilation was not discernible and not connected to Tyler Robinson prior to Robinson turning himself in.
Bald man seen driving car alleged to be Robinson’s: The defense probed Hull on Ring camera footage provided to police that shows a vehicle, believed to be Robinson’s by the prosecution, after midnight on September 12. On day one of the hearing, Hull had mentioned that footage from a Ring camera had been used to help construct the timeline of Robinson’s movements. On day two, the defense raised the point that on day one, Hull had not provided certain details about this footage: the owner of the Ring footage was a Mrs. Noble, and she told investigators that it was a bald man seen driving that vehicle with what appeared to be three passengers.
Hull did not know the crime scene had been paved over: Hull testified that he did not authorize the excavation of the soil of the crime scene and the pavers that were installed within days. He said he found out about it on the news.

DNA belongs to Twiggs: Sergeant Faumuina then read from the report authored by Amanda Bakker. According to the report, the DNA found on the screwdriver, allegedly obtained from the shooting perch on the rooftop of the Losee Center, as well as the towel in which the rifle was found wrapped in, had two contributors, one of which was definitively Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s roommate and boyfriend. The report could only state that it was more likely than not that the second contributor was Robinson as opposed to someone else.
Bakker elaborated on the report during her testimony, and stated that according to the report, about 95% of the DNA found on the towel belonged to Twiggs, and about 89% on the screwdriver belonged to Twiggs.
Video compilation details: The footage that was provided was initially rejected by the judge on day one for presentation; the prosecution provided a compilation of several different clips to attempt to show the movements of an individual they believe to be Tyler Robinson throughout campus. On day one, that footage featured edits like zoom-ins, highlighters, and circles over individuals, which the judge did not allow. With these features removed, the compilation was allowed on day two.
The compilation shows a vehicle entering a parking garage on the campus of Utah Valley University (UVU) around 8:30 AM. Hull stated that the vehicle “fits the description of the vehicle owned by Mr. Robinson” based on DMV records, but no mention was made of matching the license plate to the one known to belong to Robinson. An individual in a maroon t-shirt exits the vehicle. He is shown walking through the parking deck and exiting the deck. From there, the video footage stops.
Of note, the parking garage is supposed to require an identification to enter through some kind of key-pass entry, so it is unknown how Robinson would have had the credentials to enter the deck given he was not a student at UVU.
Hull states that this individual then “makes contact with some representatives from TPUSA” by the amphitheater which is where Kirk would later speak. The individual then returns to the parking deck, at which point video footage resumes. The individual enters the same vehicle and exits the parking deck around 9:25 AM, and we do not have footage of where the vehicle went.
Then, this individual in the same clothing is seen entering the campus on foot around 10:00 AM, and it looks like he walks into the parking structure. Hull states that he was returning from a neighborhood area to the northeast of campus. The individual then exits the parking deck, where footage stops.
Hull then claims that they were able to track this figure who goes to the Sorensen Center on campus, purchases Chick-fil-A and eats it. No video footage is provided of this. He then states that the individual goes to a wooded area and then returns to campus on foot, but without the backpack. From there, the individual allegedly moves through the Gunther building and the computer science building, “then goes across to the railing that gives access to the Losee building.” He descends the stairs and then exits the campus on foot around 11:00 AM. Again, there is no video footage provided of this.

The video footage resumes at this juncture: an individual in different clothing, this time a dark long-sleeve shirt and jeans and a different backpack, is seen entering the campus on foot the same way that the individual with the maroon t-shirt did around 11:55 AM, according to Hull. They appeared to both be wearing the same grey Converse-like shoes according to Hull. There is no explanation provided by the investigators during the testimony as to where the individual changed clothing.
This individual in the dark clothing appears to be walking with a limp: his right leg is stiff while the left leg bends. This is where investigators believe the individual, alleged to be Robinson, is hiding a long gun in his pant leg. As this individual exits the parking garage, however, it appears that the right leg is now bending while the left leg is stiff.
The prosecution included far-away footage of individuals walking on campus, including one they allege to be Robinson, and shows an individual climbing over the guardrail off the roof of the Losee Center at 12:15 PM. About five minutes of video on the rooftop are cut, however, during which time investigators say Robinson was hiding behind a retaining wall of sorts and assembling the rifle.
Hull testifies that there’s nothing identifiable about the individual in the roof.
The individual, who appears miniscule in the video footage played in court, runs to the corner of the building where the shot will take place, according to Hull, at 12:22 PM. Charlie was impacted at 12:23 PM. The individual in the dark clothing is seen lowering themselves off of the roof of the building and this person, alleged to be Robinson, appears to be carrying an object, according to Hull. Then this same figure appears to go into a wooded area off campus, according to Hull’s narration of the video footage. The footage on the rooftop and afterwards is very far away, so the court is relying on Hull’s testimony that they believe this individual is Robinson.
Medical examiner: Hull testified that he did not meet with the medical examiner prior to the autopsy to share information about the investigation, but that it was the opposite: they met with the examiner to learn details about the autopsy. However, on the cover of the autopsy report,
the medical examiner references the investigation and information that he had learned. On this discrepancy, Hull stated, “It would be my recollection that he did not learn that from us, but I couldn’t speak to how he did learn about it.”
