Grand Valley State University Senior, Noah Mullins, joins The Catholic Champion to discuss how the university has redisplayed a blasphemous and blatant attack on the Blessed Mother and Christian students, faculty, and alumni across the university system.
In the interview, Mullins explains the artwork titled, “Pétalos De Cambio” (“Petals of Change”), contains three panels that are intended to spotlight social issues including “homophobia, gender-based violence, and mental health stigma” that are prevalent in Mexico.
Earlier this year, students fought to get the university to remove it, and had the help of Michigan Representatives Jamie Thompson and Luke Meerman who joined the students protesting the art display. Unfortunately, the university decided put it back up this year in a more hidden location to secretly keep promoting the ideology it displays.
Mullins, a Catholic, expressed how he has received support from fellow Christian, Jewish, and Muslim students. “Mary is one of the most revered women in Islam,” Mullins said. “We’ve had Jewish students supporting us as well because while on earth, Mary was a practicing jew.”
Mullins asks everyone to contact the University in order to win this battle via the school’s President, the Art Curator, as well as the Provost office, where the artwork is currently displayed.
